Nimby

Nimby is an abbreviation for Not In My Back Yard that is opposition to the locating of something considered undesirable (such as a prison or incinerator) in one's neighbourhood. The Nimby is a characterisation of opposition by residents to proposed infrastructure developments in their local area, as well as support for strict land use regulations. The opposite movement is known as Pimby for Please In My Back Yard.
