Water Hammer (or Hydraulic Shock) is a physical effect caused by a pressure surge or wave, often accompanied by loud banging, produced by pressure waves generated by a rapid change of fluid velocity within the piping system. The Water Hammer commonly occurs when the flowing fluid is suddenly stopped (just after a valve closed suddenly) at an end of a piping system.
