General Average is a legal principle of maritime law that is a provision to share risk, damages and expenses incurred in proportion to the value of exposed cargo contracted between the cargo owner and the ship owner. General Average is now largely replaced by relevant institute cargo clause. (Refer to the Average Particular (or Particular Average))
