High Sulphur Fuel Oil (HSFO)

High Sulphur Fuel Oil (HSFO) is the bottom of the oil with lowest priced oil that is suitable for use with such low sulphur content in large modern vessels with low-speed diesel engines. A HSFO have a maximum sulphur content of 3.5%. The Global Sulphur Cap has been in force since 2020. Under the rules, the exhaust gases of ships burning HSFO are too high in sulphur oxides; the technologies the industry has adopted to remove those emissions are known as scrubber systems. (Refer to the Fuel Oil; Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO); Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (LSFO); Ultra Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (ULSFO))
