Desalination Process

A Desalination Process is using a chemical engineering technology that can be used to reduce the concentration of dissolved solids in brackish or sea water where a stream of saline water is fed to the process equipment and two outlet streams are produced: a desalinated fresh water and a concentrated brine. The Desalination Process consists of two main groups of processes: Thermal Processes and Membrane Processes. The Thermal Process is a simple distillation in which the heat is used to generate steam from the sea water to water with a low salinity. The Membrane Processes are Reverse Osmosis (RO); Electrodialysis (ED); Electro-Deionisation (EDI); Forward Osmosis (FO).
