MTBE (Methyl Tert-Butyl Ether)

Methyl Tert-Butyl Ether ((CH3)3COCH3, MTBE) is an ether compound made by combining isobutylene and methanol. A MTBE was used as a gasoline blending component to raise the oxygen content of gasoline, it was declined in use in part because of its occurrence in groundwater.
