RTU (Remote Terminal Unit)

A Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) is a microprocessor device for collecting data from data acquisition equipment that sends information to the main system over a wired or wireless network. A RTU is typically located at a remote site and communicates with a central control system, such as a SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system in the industries including oil and gas, power generation and distribution, water and wastewater treatment, and transportation, etc.
