A Specification is a written detailed document for the physical characteristics that is used for the purpose of engineering, procurement, and construction of the equipment and materials. The Specification includes the technical information with the descriptions and drawings of the equipment or materials as well as the workmanship requirements. The Specification does not include cost, quantity, schedule, and drawn information. Specifications vary considerably depending on the stage to which the design has been developed, ranging from performance specifications (open specifications) that require further design work to be carried out, to prescriptive specifications where the design is already complete. (Refer to the Standard Specification)
