Sulphur (Sulfur) Dioxide (SO2)

A Sulphur (Sulfur) Dioxide (SO2) is a chemical compound which is a toxic gas with a pungent, irritating smell. It is one of a group of sulphur oxides (SOx) that is highly reactive and may be produced from burning fossil fuels (coal and oil) and is released naturally by volcanic activity. Sulphur Dioxide (SO2) has harmful health effects and is a major contributor to the formation of acid rain, and can impact the respiratory system, impair lung function, and cause eye irritation.
