Cholesterol is a fat-like substance that is any of a class of certain organic molecules and an essential structural component of animal cell membranes. Cholesterol travels through the bloodstream in different packages called lipoproteins. LDL (Low-density lipoproteins – bad cholesterol) deliver cholesterol to the body, while HDL (high-density lipoproteins – good cholesterol) take cholesterol out of the bloodstream.
