Back-Fire is 1) a mistimed explosion in the cylinder or exhaust of a vehicle or engine that is combustion or an explosion produced by a running internal combustion engine occurred in the exhaust system, rather than inside the combustion chamber. The Back-Fire makes a loud noise as a result of fuel burning too early; 2) to have the opposite result from the desired or expected effect, or rebound adversely on the originator.
