Singles’ Day (Guanggunn Jie) is a holiday popular among Chinese young people that celebrate their pride in being single. The date, 11th November because the date 11/11 represents four ones, or four singles, standing together. The Singles’ Day is the China’s and world’s biggest online shopping event, Alibaba and its founder, Jack Ma, transformed for Chinese singletons to a global shopping festival back in 2009, as the Asian version of America’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping sales, but bigger than the two combined (in 2017, sales surpassed $1 billion within two minutes of the start of Singles’ Day, and total sales for the day reached a record $25.3 billion. US Black Friday sales, which totaled a little over $7.9 billion in 2017, and in 2018 they reached the 2017 record within 15 hours, 49 minutes, and 39 seconds).
