Ampere (A)

The Ampere (A) is the base unit of electrical current or rate of flow of electrons in the International System (SI) of Units that flows in a circuit at an electromotive force of one Volt and at a resistance of one Ohm.

Reference Definition by NIST: The ampere, symbol A, is the SI unit of electric current. It is defined by taking the fixed numerical value of the elementary charge e to be 1.602 176 634 x 10-19 when expressed in the unit C, which is equal to A s, where the second is defined in terms of ΔνCs. The expression MKS unit of force which occurs in the original text has been replaced here by Newton, the name adopted for this unit by the 9th CGPM (1948). Note that the effect of this definition is to fix the magnetic constant (permeability of vacuum) at exactly 4 x 10-7 H · m-1.
