BHP (Brake Horsepower)

Brake Horsepower or British Horsepower (BHP) is a standard measure of power output for engines at the engine’s flywheel which is more of a theoretical calculation, made under lab-controlled conditions, and without having anything attached to the engine, but the Horsepower (HP) is measured with all the components attached to the engine, to determine its maximum rate and speed.

The mechanical horsepower, also known as imperial horsepower, of exactly 550 foot-pounds per second is approximately equivalent to 745.7 watts (W). The metric horsepower of 75 kgf-m per second is approximately equivalent to 735.5 W or 98.6% of an imperial mechanical horsepower. An Electrical Horsepower is 746 W.
