HP (Horsepower)

A Horsepower (HP) is a power output measured at the wheels (WHP) for electrical machines that is defined as exactly 746 W. The term was adopted in the late 18th century by Scottish engineer James Watt to compare the output of steam engines with the power of draft horses. A WHP (Wheel Horsepower) provides around 15 % less than the power measured at the engine (Brake Horsepower (BHP)) because power is lost in the drive line including clutch and transmission. (Refer to the Brake Horsepower (BHP))
