Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Equivalent (CO2e)

Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Equivalent (CO2e) is a term for describing different greenhouse gases in a common unit that uses the functionally equivalent amount or concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) as the reference which would have the equivalent global warming impact. (e.g., 1kg of CH4 is expressed as 25kg of CO2e)

Reference Definition by OECD: Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Equivalent is a measure used to compare the emissions from various greenhouse gases based upon their global warming potential. For example, the global warming potential for methane over 100 years is 21. This means that emissions of one million metric tons of methane is equivalent to emissions of 21 million metric tons of carbon dioxide.
