Cold Heavy Oil Production with Sand (CHOPS) in this process sand filters are removed from pumping equipment and sand is produced along with oil. The two are then separated above ground. In general, CHOPS is capable of recovering a 5 to 6% of oil in a given a well. (Source: Petroleum Glossary)
