Demurrage

Demurrage is an additional charge to the owner of a chartered ship on failure to load or discharge the ship that is a separate freight charge as a penalty or detention. The Demurrage is imposed according to the terms of a carriage contract upon the consignor, consignee, or other third party who is responsible for unreasonable delays in loading or unloading cargo.
