Genocide

Genocide is the intentional destruction of a people (e.g., an ethnic, national, racial, or religious group) in whole or in part that is an internationally recognised crime where acts are committed with the intent to destroy. Raphael Lemkin coined the term in 1944, combining the Greek word “genos” (race, people) with the Latin suffix “-caedo” (act of killing).
