Gross Tonnage (GT)

Gross Tonnage (GT) is a volumetric measurement of the enclosed space in a ship (not weight) that is a nonlinear measure of a ship's overall internal volume. A GT has nothing to do with weight. GT = K1V, where V: volume of the enclosed space in a ship in cubic metres (m^3), K1 (Constant) = 0.2 + 0.02 log10 V. The unit used is the gross TON. (Refer to the Deadweight (DWT); Displacement Tonnage)
