Major Accident

Major Accident is an incident leading to serious damage to the installation or connected infrastructure, or any other incident leading to fatalities or serious injury, or serious danger to human health or the environment that includes an explosion, fire, loss of well control, or release of oil, gas or dangerous substances, etc.

Reference Definition by Hse.gov.uk: Major Accident is an occurrence (including in particular, a major emission, fire or explosion) resulting from uncontrolled developments in the course of the operation of any establishment and leading to serious danger to human health or the environment, immediate or delayed, inside or outside the establishment, and involving one or more dangerous substances.
