Mitigation Factor

A Mitigation Factor is a system or procedure to reduce the magnitude of potential effects due to a release, such as sheltering and evacuation. In law, the Mitigation Factor or Mitigating Factor is any information or evidence presented to the court regarding the defendant or the circumstances of the crime that might result in reduced charges or a lesser sentence that includes an ability for the criminal to reform, mental retardation, an addiction to illegal substances or alcohol that contributed to the criminal behaviour, and past good deeds, among many others.
