Peak Shaving

Peak Shaving is the process of implementing measures to reduce peak power demands on a system by peaking charges. (Refer to the Peak Clipping)

Reference Definition by Gas Strategies: Peak Shaving is a means of reducing the Peak Load on the gas transportation and supply system by supplying some gas from sources at or close to the point of ultimate consumption, thus improving the average Load Factor. Peak shaving may be daily or seasonal and will be handled in a variety of ways: – Underground storage, peak shaving LNG plants, Line Pack, Gas Holders, propane-air plant and, occasionally, special peak shaving supply contracts. A non-storage alternative to peak shaving is to interrupt Interruptible Gas supplies.
