Performance Appraisal

A Performance Appraisal is a review of an employee’s job or a contractor’s work performance and overall contribution to a company that is central to effective management, and consists of regular reviews of the performance within organisations. The Performance Appraisal should be: to provide adequate feedback to each employee or contractor; to serve as a basis for modifying or changing behaviour toward more effective working habits; to provide data to managers with which they may judge future job assignments and compensations.

Reference Definition by OECD: Performance Appraisal is an assessment against a set of predetermined criteria of the efficiency and effectiveness with which an individual fulfils an agreed set of tasks. Such appraisals are frequently used in assessing whether managers should qualify for pay increases or promotion.
