Phosphoric Acid Fuel Cell (PAFC)

A Phosphoric Acid Fuel Cell (PAFC) is a type of fuel cell in which the electrolyte consists of concentrated phosphoric acid (H3PO4), Platinum electrode-catalysts are needed, and operates at approximately 200°C. A PAFC is typically used in modules of 400 kW or greater, being used for stationary power production in commercial buildings, and the waste heat can also be used. A PAFC has been tested 11 MW units.
