Sacrificial Protection is the protection of a metal in an electrolyte by electrically by using a more reactive metal. A common form is galvanising, the hot-dip galvanising will provide this sacrificial protection, the corrosion products from the zinc are deposited on the steel resealing it from the electrolyte, such as salt water, a galvanic cell is set up and the metallic coating corrodes instead of the steel. (Refer to the Cathodic Protection)
