A Synchronous Generator is an electrical generator that runs at the constant speed called synchronous speed and draws its excitation from a power source external or independent of the load or transmission network it is supplying. Synchronous Generators are most often used to produce commercial-frequency current. The rotors of such machines are driven by steam or water turbines as well as gas turbines, internal-combustion engines, wind engines, and electric motors.
