Wide Area Network (WAN)

A Wide Area Network (WAN) is a computer network system or device that spans a relatively large geographical area and shares the common communications line or wireless link to a server, typically, two or more local area networks (LANs). A WAN is often connected through public networks, such as the telecommunication through leased lines or satellites. The largest WAN in existence is the Internet System. (Contrast to the Local Area Network (LAN))
