Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS)

The Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS) provides the food hygiene rating or inspection result given to a business and reflect the standards of food hygiene found on the date of inspection or visit by the local authority. (e.g., restaurants, pubs, cafés, takeaways, hotels and other places consumers eat, as well as supermarkets and other food shops) The Food Hygiene ratings: 0 – Urgent improvement necessary; 1 – Major improvement necessary; 2 – Improvement necessary; 3 – Generally satisfactory; 4 – Good; 5 – Very good.

Reference Definition by the Food.gov.uk: The Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS) helps you choose where to eat out or shop for food by telling you how seriously the business takes their food hygiene standards. The scheme is run by local authorities in England, Northern Ireland and Wales and applies to restaurants, pubs, cafes, takeaways, hotels, supermarkets and other food shops. At the end of the inspection, the business is given one of the six ratings from 0-5. The top rating of ‘5’ means that the business was found to have ‘very good’ hygiene standards.
