Health Hazard Band (HHB)

Health Hazard Band (HHB) is a tool for hygienists to do the exposure risk assessment and risk management in the workplace that is a process intended to assign chemicals into specific bands under review in the qualitative aspects of risk management, and each corresponding to a range of exposure concentrations designed to protect worker health.

Reference Definition by CDC.gov: Health Hazard Band is a framework used to develop occupational hazard assessments in the face of uncertainties caused by limitations in the human health or toxicology data for a chemical or other agent. Health hazard banding presumes it is possible to group together chemicals or other agents into categories of similar toxicity or hazard characteristics. Such banding can guide risk communication and risk management strategies in the absence of robust dose-response information.
