Energy Standard

An Energy Standard is a mandatory programme stipulating the minimum efficiency levels or maximum energy-use levels acceptable for products sold. A Renewable Energy Standard (RES) requires utility companies to source a certain amount of the energy generated or sold from renewable sources such as wind and solar. A Clean Energy Standard (CES) is required a certain percentage of retail electricity sales come from non- or low-emitting sources which can be a politically favourable and cost-effective alternative to pricing carbon in the electricity business.
