Hazard Classification

Hazard Classification is a process required under OSHA standards: for each chemical, the chemical manufacturer or importer shall determine the hazard classes, and where appropriate, the category of each class that applies to the chemical being classified. The Hazard Classification can be broken into three categories: Safety and Environmental, High Business Risk, and Low Business Risk. (Refer to the GHS (Globally Harmonized System))

Reference Definition by Osha.gov: Hazard Classification is the process of evaluating the full range of available scientific evidence to determine if a chemical is hazardous, as well as to identify the level of severity of the hazardous effect. When complete, the evaluation identifies the hazard class(es) and associated hazard category of the chemical.
