Photovoltaic (PV) Effect is a process that generates voltage or electric current in a photovoltaic cell when it is exposed to sunlight. The Photovoltaic (PV) Effect is the phenomenon that occurs when photons, the particles in a beam of light, knock electrons loose from the atoms they strike.
