Piezoelectricity

Piezoelectricity is the process of using crystals to convert mechanical energy into electrical energy, or vice versa that is the property of some crystalline materials (e.g., crystals, certain ceramics, biological matter (bone, DNA), etc.) to polarize when subjected to a mechanical deformation, generating a potential difference, and at the same time to deform in an elastic manner when traversed by electrical current. The Piezoelectric Effect is the ability of certain materials to generate an electric charge in response to applied mechanical stress that accumulates in certain solid materials in response to applied mechanical stress.
