Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs, C12H10−xClx) are a group of synthetic, toxic industrial chemical compounds once used in making paint and electrical transformers, which are chemically inert and not biodegradable. Concentrated PCBs are either oily liquids or solids and are colourless to light yellow in colour. There are no known natural sources of PCBs that was banned by United States federal law in 1978.
