Variable Speed Drive (VSD)

A Variable Speed Drive (VSD) or Adjustable Speed Drive (ASD) is the equipment used to control the speed of machinery where the process conditions must be operated at different speeds for different products, or adjustment of flow, changing the speed of the motor-drive could save energy compared to other techniques for flow control. A VSD refers to either AC Drives or DC Drives vary the speed by varying the voltage to the motor, and the VFD refers to AC drives only. (Refer to the Variable Frequency Drive (VFD), Adjustable Frequency Drive (AFD), or Variable Voltage and Variable Frequency (VVVF))
