VRU (Vapour Recovery Unit)

A Vapour Recovery Unit (VRU) is the process of collecting the vapours present in crude oil or distillate tanks at storage facilities to lower emissions levels to reduce noxious and potentially explosive gases and pollutions or other fuels while recovering valuable hydrocarbons to be sold or reused as fuel. The vapours are usually either environmentally hazardous, or valuable from crude oil or condensate and captured by a VRU that provides significant environmental and economic benefits for the oil and gas producers as well as chemical industries. (Refer to the VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds))
